Mark Colety

Biographical

Mark Colety is an American author and musician. Born and raised in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, he began studying music when he was only 6, taught himself guitar at age 13, and has been writing and performing his own music ever since. Although he is classically trained in theory and composition, Colety's songwriting is lean and direct, recalling the simple, unadorned style of Neil Young. Nonetheless, his music continues to evolve through his willingness to push his creative boundaries to the limit. He has lived in Seattle, which he now considers home, for the past ten years.

Mark Colety began writing at an early age, and studied under renowned poet Edward Kleinschmidt Mayes at Santa Clara University for three years. He worked briefly as a free lance journalist in Seattle, while writing his controversial novel, The Prodigal Ones.

Press

"The songs offered on [Love the Hard Way] are great . . . He may still be an artist that does everything completely on his own, but it seems likely that even without the backing of a major label he could find success."
-Chris Dahlberg, Cosmos Gaming/Music

"Mark Colety's NEXT EX would make a great hit!"
-Bob Rivers, 102.5 KZOK Seattle

The Gypsies Americain Bio:

A boy from Seattle, a gal from Nashville, and a boy from SF met up in January of 2009. Mark Colety was looking for two musicians to take his music in a new direction and bring the pain performing live! Hard-hitting local drum mercenary Nick Salzetti was introduced to Colety through a mutual friend and the two clicked right away. Nick ditched his other band that day, they got a practice space in Ballard and began jamming together. Like all bad girls should be met, they found Tanya Stokes online. After months of auditions and just when they were losing heart Tanya answered an add in the Stranger, showed up in her cowboy boots with her bass under one arm, and quietly and modestly kicked their collective ass. Her years of experience and solid groove made all the difference, and Mark Colety's Gypsies Americain was born. The trio became fast friends and set off to back the first two records while developing new music for the upcoming album.
